100 Mile House offers a skilled workforce, an affordable housing stock, a strong commercial and industrial core, an ideal location close to large centres, a prominent highway transportation corridor, and a very attractive cost of living for prospective investors and their employees.

Historically, the local economy has been closely tied to the forest industry and value added production, such as the log home building industry, from which 100 Mile House has become recognized around the world as the Handcrafted Log Home Capital of North America. In addition, the community is host to one of the premier OSB plants in North America. Norbord Inc. services an international demand for its superior grade product, including approximately 75% of the total Japanese market. The forestry sector continues to be the anchor of the local economy.

100 Mile House recognizes the importance of innovation and vision to grow and diversify our economic base, especially in the global economy. We are building on our rich ranching and agricultural history, by supporting agricultural efforts in the region, including local food production, market development for agricultural products, and establishing agricultural capacity and investor confidence needed for the commercialization of locally grown and processed industrial hemp.

100 Mile House has a strong commercial and service-based presence. We are a busy service center for the whole South Cariboo, which includes a robust resident and seasonal population from surrounding resort and lake communities, and for the travelling public in general. 100 Mile House has an ideal location along a major N-S provincial highway, with 1.3 million vehicles annually travelling right through town. Investors are choosing 100 Mile House for business operations because of the availability of services, nearby markets, and easy access to various modes of transportation, be it rail, air, or highway.

Equally important is the South Cariboo’s clean air, pristine lakes, abundance of recreational opportunities, and unparalleled quality of life. These assets, together with our small town ambiance, a spirited volunteer sector, and all- around affordability, make 100 Mile House an exceptionally 'live-able' community!

We look forward to working with you to help make your business activities in the South Cariboo successful and enjoyable.

Local Investment Opportunities

Bridge Creek Ranch is an historic equestrian and cattle ranch. Its 2400 acres of deeded land and 2230 acres of grazing and woodlot license combine to 4633+ acres of prime real estate. It is in impeccable repair and located close to commercial and community services with good transportation access.

The Hills Health and Guest Ranch opportunity features 260 acres. Rezoning has been approved for Comprehensive Development [CD1] for the purposes of expanding the current spa resort. Existing accommodation is offered in 26 rooms, 20 chalets, with approval for 34 additional units all of which also hold potential to be sold as strata units. In sum, the Hills generates income and cash flow from three sources; resort operations, sale of existing Strata units (46) and further development of the extensive real estate opportunity (up to 219 units, either single family or other including development approved for the other 708 acres or 34 additional units on the 260 acre resort node site).

The 108 Resort Golf & Outdoor Adventures is located in the rolling hills of British Columbia's spectacular Cariboo region.  An ideal all season destination featuring 42 well appointed guest rooms, and graced by two lakes and a CPGA 18 hole golf course and miles of riding trails through wooded forests. Whether it be for business or pleasure, the 108 Resort is a unique getaway that includes golfing, horseback riding, tennis, fishing, canoeing, and mountain biking in the summer, sleigh rides, cross country skiing , tobogganing and skating in the winter. We offer 548 acres and we are looking for Investor-Partners or to sell the whole project to an investor who wants to give the 108 Resort the necessary financial push to bring it back to a successful operation and year round destination.

Local Infrastructure Projects

  • Enhancements to Effluent Reuse:

The first phase includes construction of two rapid infiltration basins, each designed for the projected 20 year maximum daily flow.  A SCADA controlled lift station is required for the proposed basins, all to be located on west side of existing lagoons on Canim-Hendrix Lake Road.  The project also includes upgrading of two existing irrigation pumps for 'contracted' effluent disposal.  Construction slated for completion fall 2012.

  • Water Treatment Plant Conversion:

Bridge Creek is the District's main water supply.  The surface water is presently treated by slow sand filtration, UV treatment, and disinfected with chlorine (gas).  Due to the safety requirements of stakeholders and personnel, the chlorine gas apparatus is being changed out in favour of a sodium hypochlorite system, which is more costly for product, but has similar disinfection qualities.  Construction completed May 2012

  • Bridge Creek Trail Upgrades:

This project consists of replacing two pedestrian bridges at Bridge Creek Falls, regrading accesses, and improving drainage in several locations.  Construction completion scheduled for Fall 2012.  A scope change was approved, to include a 3rd bridge, located at the old bridge site, near the "swimming hole".  Construction completion now slated for Spring 2013.

  • Sidewalk Program:

Council has directed that a sidewalk plan be developed with a commitment of $50,000 to be invested annually; over the next five years.

  • Long Term Water Quality Improvement Plan:

The objective of this project is to develop a comprehensive list of source water options, to ensure long term water quality and quantity.  A Source Protection Plan will be included in this proposed project.
